Laser Toenail Fungal Treatment
The Cooltouch (1320nm) and Cutera (1064nm) lasers are breakthroughs in medical technology that are both clinically proven to eliminate nail fungus from toenails and fingernails. By utilizing dual wavelengths it is possible to safely and effectively treat toenail fungus. Until recently, the treatment for toenail fungus has been prolonged oral therapy with a potential systemic side effects. How does the Cooltouch / Cutera Laser for Toenail Fungal removal Work?
Both the Cooltouch and Cutera work by gently heating up the skin underneath the infected nail bed. Once the target temperature is reached the laser has killed the fungus, if the temp goes any higher a cool spray is released preventing any harm to the patient. Since the nails grow very slowly results usually are seen in 6-12 months.
Does the Cooltouch or Cutera fungus laser hurt?
The Cooltouch and Cutera laser provides a comfortable safe feedback. During the laser treatment the laser is programmed to fire a cool spray once the target temperature is reached. The procedure feels like a warm sensation over the toes.
How many and how long are the fungal nail laser treatments?
We recommend 3 treatments one month apart. It takes approximately 20 min per treatment. The initial treatment may be longer as filing/sanding of the nail may be necessary to optimize the therapeutic benefit. Between treatment we recommend using anti fungal sprays and other techniques to prevent reinfection. We will discuss post care after the first treatment.

Are the laser treatments covered by insurance?
Most cosmetic laser treatments are not covered by insurances. Some insurances have cosmetic inclusions so we recommend patients to contact there insurance providers to find out more information about their insurance plans.
How soon will I see improvements after the Cooltouch / Cutera?
In humans, nails grow at an average rate of 3 mm (0.12 in) a month (as they are a form of hair). Fingernails require 3 to 6 months to re-grow completely, and toenails require 12 to 18 months. Actual growth rate is dependent upon age, gender, season, exercise level, diet, and hereditary factors.
